Artwork Statement

'The pots were gas fired for 90 hours to 1220c to mature the shino glaze. The gold lustre was applied as a second firing. The box is red and white cedar with a pine lid and was made by Rob Bennett in1983. The pieces were made using clay collected and processed from the Mayfield region in the ACT. The Shino Type glaze would have been the same recipe I have used for many years however the materials I was using at that time were commercially prepared. The glaze was applied directly to the raw clay. The work was wood fired in my anna-gama kiln for a minimum of 80 hours. I can't say if they were only fired only once. I often fire work 4-6 times to achieve certain qualities'. Bill Samuels 11/1994
