Artwork Statement

"The piece you have is a hand-built stoneware "Arch" form, made at my Blackfriars pottery in Chippendale, Sydney 1981. The glaze used is creamy white where thick & orange brown where thin. The horizontal line 1/3 up from the base is the result of double thickness of glaze. The vertical centre line is darkened with copper carbonate, also in seals at the bottom RH side. Blue at top is very thin cobalt oxide. At the same time as this piece was made I was also making "discord" forms & rectangular slab forms. It was fired in a L.P. gas kiln to approx. 1300C. The clay is a body we mixed at Blackfriars from BB clay (Gulgong NSW ) plus feldspar & silica". The artist 1994
