'Tim Hixson’s tool of choice is a basic plastic camera and the resultant shadowing around the edges of the images gives the impression of a telescopic lens, or more poetically the viewer’s eye. Hixson’s more enigmatic subjects are the Tibetan Buddhist monks who are undertaking, after the long and painstaking production of a sand mandala – a circular abstract representation of the spiritual and cosmic universe – its dissolution into the sea. A return to the primal fluid in which all earthly beings originate'. Jason Smith, 2006
