Artwork Statement

'The content of my work varies in both subject matter and form - and is often underpinned by feminist concerns as well as by the meanings inherent within the techniques and media I choose to work with. Much of my work has attempted to reveal and re-evaluate the many contributions that "women's work" has made to our cultural heritage. In the print, Vagina Floibunda: Needlelace Pattern#11, the iconic yoni, or "gateway to heaven", masquerades as a delicate needlelace design. The depicition of yoni as a mandala-like design with patterns radiating out from the centre not only mimics many traditional doiley designs, but also alludes to the yoni's spiritual and sacred nature'.
