Therese RYDER

Therese Ryder grew up at Santa Teresa Mission, South East of Alice Springs, living in a dormitory, being cared for by Catholic nuns. The girls were taught cooking, sewing and house cleaning. Drawing lessons were given once a week at school.

Ryder’s work bares similarities to the work of Albert Namatjira but Ryder was not part of the Hermannsburg School which was led by Namatjira. She learnt watercolour at Santa Teresa and developed her work in Alice Springs.
