John (Sir) LONGSTAFF
Longstaff was a talented and highly respected Australian artist of the time.
Longstaff is best known for his work as an Australian portrait and war artist. He was a five-time winner of the Archibald Prize and was knighted in 1928. He was the first Australian artist to have recieved this honour. His work was typified by his beautiful sensitivity to the substance of paint.
