John BROOKE

My work inhabits the tiny gap between painting and sculpture. The paintings are often sculptural and my sculptures are, in their own way, painterly.

My sculptures interpret the landscape and on occasion, the human figure. They reflect the forms and the colours of the ocean and sky on Sydney's beautiful Northern Beaches.

I love the way things move in the landscape here - the clouds, tides, waves, currents and the winds through the grasses, the treetops and the surf.

Why do I do it? Who knows. An artist often paints and sculpts in the hope that when he is gone some traces of him will remain. I want any traces I leave on the planet to be beautiful.
